OK I will try to find out. I don’t really want the THEME in french, just some parts of text, hence my question.
for my previous theme, I have changed the bits inside the adequate php files, (comments.php for example for the english parts in the comment form)
Translating all the theme (I mean the wp menus and all that) seems a lot of work and that’s not what I want to do.

I have copied the two mo and po files. renamed them fr_FR.mo and fr_FR.po
when I open fr_FR.po with poedit (didn’t see “Properties” or “Catalog” in the menu by the way) I had a look at the translations already made in the file and they are fine with me.
I have pasted both files via ftp into :
wpcontent/themes/elegance-childtheme/languages/
and also in
wpcontent/themes/yeathemes-elegance/languages/
but the words on my blog (next-previous,etc… ) are still in english.
should I delete the en_US.mo and en_US.po files from the folders via FTP ?
thank you

should I modify also the wpconfig.php file and add fr_FR, this way ? : “define (‘WPLANG’, ‘fr_FR’);” –

My settings were already set to french language in wordpress, before I edited the mo and po files.
No I don’t see this menu File/Edit/View… in poedit program. And as I told you I didn’t make any modification to the PO file because when I have renamed it in FR_fr the sentences in french were ok to me.
Here’s the screenshot of my poedit screen :

Could you tell me the precise path where to place these files, as I told you I have placed them in different places and this is not right….
Please note I also want to translate the terms in the search widget and in the box share (share this story and the three blocks under)
thank you

In the meantime, maybe you could tell me how to translate the widget “search” and “share” which I don’t think are in the list of the p.o. file.
thank you

There are two mistakes highlighted in red when I save my po file and a warning saying that this may not work well.
here they are :
https://atasteofmylife.fr/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Capture-d’écran-2015-03-11-à-15.05.59.png
and
https://atasteofmylife.fr/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Capture-d’écran-2015-03-11-à-15.06.19.pngApparently “1” hasn’t been specified in msgstr … whatever that means
Does it help ?

I’m not sure to understand your answer.
Here’s what I have done :
I have renamed my files
wpthms-fr_FR.po and
wpthms.fr_FR.moplaced them in the ftp folder
www
wp-content
languagesand in wordpress : settings / general / site language,
I have chosen “wpthms-fr_FR” in the menu instead of “french”.still doesn’t work.
maybe I missed something in your answer ? text domain – file locale : what does this mean ?
could you be more clear please ? I feel so dumb and really fed up.
thanks

I have asked the help from a friend and she has installed a very convenient plugin in my wordpress and everything is fine now and translated locally without using ftp.
Only one thing is bugging me. Inside the comments the date format is wrong and this is not a translation problem.
I want to change the date format from Month/Day/Year to Day/Month/Year IN THE COMMENTS area.
it should be a string like get_the_time(‘F j,Y’)
that I want to replace by get_the_time(‘D/M/Y’)Can you help me to locate this please ?
thank you

I don’t know what you have done, but it’s great !
I had a look in the settings/general section but couldn’t see what I had to change.
Now I think this topic is RESOLVED ! yay !
