    Hi,

I decided to update our site’s theme today using Envato WordPress Tool kit.

But as you will be able to see, it’s messed things up and the white background has disappeared (see previous original look here).

That’s the only visible issue I’ve noticed, but there may be other internal issues caused by the failed update.

I later had a look at this forum post where Maxxi, I think explained the issue.

Well unfortunately, I didn’t see that before and wasn’t aware there would be a problem with the update. Whilst I’ve managed to ‘restore options’ through the usual Backup/Restore panel, the site is still in a bad state.

Is there a way that I can go back to life before this theme update?!

Can this be resolved a.s.a.p please.

    Here is the site.

      Hi Jacob,

No, that’s not the issue at all. I have not updated the custom CSS in months!

As explained, This issue was due to a theme update I carried out from Envato WordPress Tool kit.

I’ve never updated the theme before, but looked at this forum and thought it might be good. First of all, when I opened the Envato plugin and checked what the latest updates were – the new popup page was just blank but I went along with it and clicked on ‘automatically update’

This problem is nothing to do with CSS or anything because I’ve not touched any of that in ages. Anyway, if I update something under the ‘Theme options’ then it changes the site’s font to Arial which is another issue entirely!!

Can you please not get rid of the theme update, I don’t want it, it’s ruined the site!

To add to that, it’s not just the look/layout which has been ruined by the theme update…

The way everything loads on the pages is different too. Can you actually check some of the pages rather than just looking at the homepage?

    Hi Maxxi,

Thanks for sorting that out. But there’s only one issue, as you have saved theme options, it has changed all font to Arial rather than the previous demo font we had running?

I have noticed this has been the case before. Whenever I try to save Sparkle theme options, it changes all fonts to Arial so that’s why I restore the backup I have…

Could you work out the reason for this? And prevent this from happening? I want my font to be like it is in the demo (as was previously set up)

    Thanks.

Also, we have a Yoast Breadcrumbs plugin which is activated but after you did whatever you did, it’s not appearing on the site?

And I wasn’t aware that we had to carry out updates ourselves. So if I’m not using the Envato tool, how else can I update the theme?

    Thanks

Sorry, but it’s me again. I’m not happy with the changes you’ve made to ‘resolve’ this problem. The site still loads in a funny way.

The hero banner doesn’t load like it did before (and I don’t mean in terms of effects, I mean that the banner doesn’t load in the right way.. it sort of unfolds). On the single post page, the share buttons don’t instantly load. I added share buttons at the end of the post too, that feature has disappeared. It’s all really strange.

Instead of the update improving things, I’ve just lost so many things and the site has gone all funny.. including previously mentioned font.

Please can you not just take the site back to before this theme update? Or better still downgrade me to the previous theme??

I’m not sure if you’re even reading my posts??! The issue isn’t just regarding font.

And also, what is this about Child Theme. If the theme is set as ChildTheme does that mean our customisations won’t change after every update?

How do you set up Child Theme? And can you please answer my previous queries and revert the site to before the theme update… it’s ruined things. Thanks.

I have updated to PHP 5.4 (FastCGI), but that has only resolved font issues.

I have also highlighted other issues after the theme update such as the way things load onto the page.

Take a look at how the hero banner loads for instance, whereas before the whole page loaded effortlessly together.

The way the share buttons and everything loads on the site (and singe page) is also strange. Can you take a look?

I have also lost the display of the share button below single page posts too. Can you help retrieve that option?

And YT Breadcrumbs have gone missing. I have already attached login credentials for you above.

Please help as I’m beginning to regret updating the theme, I was completely fine without the new update and had been for months.

(P.S. With regards to installing child theme, where do I upload this? I Straight to wordpress or FTP/File manager? I haven’t got a clue how to do this!!)

    Hi Jacob,

Yes please, could you migrate to child theme and help sort out the customization. I’m not good at this kind of thing and would probably end up losing the site!!

And no, I didn’t backup the custom functions php on parent theme.

I have already posted login credentials, let me know if you need anything else …

Hello, I’m guessing you have finished! Nice work thanks.

    Just a few more issues:

    1. I would only like to display breadcrumbs on the single posts. Nowhere else (not even the homepage), how do you set that up?

    2. The space between the breadcrumbs and the single post title is too little, could we move the title a tiny bit further down and perhaps the share buttons a little further up?

    3. Hero Banner (as previously) stated still loads funny – please see earlier post for details. Also, if you check out the hero banners on home and other pages, why has the category tag been dragged right to the top of the small images? They were previously a little further down like the demo.

Please also take a look at speed performance which I feel has been affected since last update. Can anything be done to improve loading time?

    That is all, many thanks.

    Hi,

Thank you so much that’s all looking brilliant!

But I could I just ask about the hero banner again. The category tags on the banner for the small images have been placed weird and are too far up the pictures? Also if you check the banner out on mobile, the category tags are all over the place?!

And is there a way for the full post title to display in the banner images (even the small ones)?

    Thanks.

Hey, That worked like a treat for desktop!!

But Mobile version is still messy, please take a look at this screenshot.

I believe it’s due to those images being smaller than Image 1 and Image 6 in the hero banner?
