    I found this

    Hero Banner Alignment Issue

So basically the photos have to be bigger than certain dimensions right? What dimensions are those? and the guy in the forum recommends using a plugging called “post thumbnail editor” to crop, do you guys use it? maybe you guys should put it in the documentation

Alright I downloaded this plugin but i still don’t know how it works. Do I have to change anything form the settings-media settings?

How big are your images ? We used images over 500 px width and 260 px height and it works good for us.

The only thing is you need to have a minimum of 5 blog posts with featured image of that size and You have to mention the categories that needs to be queryed for hero banner. Only those category posts will be queryed and the total queryed posts should be minimum of 5

So lets just say you have X category that has more than 5 Blog posts and all of them have a featured Image then your Hero Banner should work just fine.

So basically what Haider is saying is that if you have all your post with the same size you should be okay. SO choose one size and stick to it? I can see how that can work. I am sticking with 750x500px

Okay so lately I’ve been using the scale option in the wordpress media edit and that was working fine till recently. I haven’t been able to fix this problem. I was wondering how can i make it work using the wordpress scaling tool.

What does that do? Does that has anything to do with the fact that my mobile version images are very “heavy” under page speed insight standards? My desktop sizes are excellent but my mobile images need to be optimised. Also what does regenerate thumbnails do? Does it optimise images?

Btw I was able to fix the issue by manually sizing them using an image editor. I just set it to 800px by 450px
But I still need help optimising the mobile version of the images.

Well the size of my images are below 100kb. But the problem is that pagespeed shows that the mobile images (the smaller images made from the original) are heavy and use more kb than they should. Is there a way to compress them.

    Check what I mean here.

Thanks Maxxi but I better not change anything. I like the responsive layout and how imagazes adjust to the size of the screen.

I am still wondering about what does regenerate images plugin does? does it creates more image sizes? but wouldn’t that make the size of my website bigger?

    Haha okay I see.

Well now that I have the plugin regeneration. What are the recommended sizes to set in the media settings for thumbnails size, medium size and large?

Alright I will leave it on and let regenerate take care of the rest, though I have found is better for speed if your images are closer to the actual size they occupied. So if the image supposed to be 700×500 and you add one that is 1000×900 then the theme has to resize them to that size, but this causes many request that slow you down so if you already predefine it as 700×500 then its better. I think 🙂 at least that is what I have found.

Mm I see. I think I’m doing something wrong but I don’t know what. Check this test

    http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/lSxXt/http://ultrabodymind.com

You’ll notice how my images are all over the place.

    What I’m currently doing:

    Resize images to 750×450
Reduce kb to less than 30kb
Upload and use ewww just in case I missed something.
Use regenerate if an image is not working properly.

That’s it. How do you guys do it? I’ll copy your technique since I’ve tested your demo site and it does very well.
